Step 4: Business Planning and Financing — Turning Vision into Reality
By now, you’ve gathered the facts, connected with a number of our franchise store owners, and learned how our system operates. Step 4, “Learning How to Fly,” is where your vision begins to take shape.
Why This Step Matters
Your business plan is more than a document — it’s your roadmap. This phase helps you translate your enthusiasm for the Wild Birds Unlimited brand into a clear, practical plan for success. Over the years, we have heard countless candidates tell us the putting their hopes, dreams and goals into a written document like this has helped them really think through their decision to join the Wild Birds Unlimited team.
You’ll begin drafting your business plan and financial projections, using tools we provide to guide your structure and focus. We will provide you with a Wild Birds Unlimited Business Plan Example that you can download and use as a base to create your own, customized Business Plan. Our team will review your drafts, answer questions, and connect you with our New Owner Support Team so you understand the coaching and operational guidance available to you from day one. We will not be able to review any of your financial projections in accordance with FTC regulations but can review the written portion of your draft Business Plan.
What You’ll Experience
During this stage, you’ll:
- Download and adapt our sample business plan to reflect your community, goals, and experience.
- Develop financial projections with the help of your accountant or business advisor.
- Participate in a working session with a member of our Franchise Development team to refine your plan and prepare for executive review.
- Connect with one or more of our lending partners if necessary
We can’t legally review or advise on your specific projections, but we’re here to ensure your plan reflects a realistic, strategic approach that sets you up for long-term success.
The Bridge Between Dream and Execution
This is where your excitement becomes action. It’s the moment you stop asking, “Can I do this?” and start thinking, “Here’s how I’ll do this.”
A well-crafted business plan shows you, your financing partners, and our leadership team that you understand the opportunity and are ready to build a business that connects your community to the joy of birds, bird feeding and nature.
