New WBU Store Owners

Mollee and James are a West Virginian husband-and-wife team who are reopening Wild Birds Unlimited in Morgantown, WV this fall.

Both grew up in the state. James is the third generation in his family to run their local furniture store, and Mollee is a professional birding guide. They met through birding in 2019, and have been together since.

Besides birdwatching as a hobby, they both enjoy photojournalism, and you can find their photos and writing in a range of nature publications. Mollee also co-hosts Life List: A Birding Podcast, is a member of the West Virginia Bird Records committee, and sits on the boards of Brooks Bird Club, Mountaineer Audubon, and Frontiers in Ornithology.

James and Mollee both enjoy running, hiking, and land restoration. Together, they are managing their 42-acre property, a reclaimed strip mine they have named Vandalia, to increase biodiversity. Mollee gardens and loves to cook, and James built the Woodcock Creations wood shop on the property. They are passionate about minimizing their footprint and living off the land the best they can, and always have a range of projects in the works with those goals in mind.

They both have been Wild Birds Unlimited customers for the past decade, and Mollee has a history of collaborating with WBU through her past work at Bird Watcher’s Digest magazine. They were thrilled at the opportunity to purchase their local franchise and expand bird feeding and birdwatching in their community. Together, they aim to combine their experiences in birds, nature, and retail to share their passion with their community through WBU.
