Every October, birders across the country come together to celebrate Birdability Week—a national movement that reminds us that birding truly is for every body. This special week highlights the joy of birding while promoting accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities and other health concerns.
At Wild Birds Unlimited, we believe that everyone should be able to experience the simple, profound joy of connecting with birds and nature. Our mission has always been to bring people and nature together—and Birdability Week perfectly aligns with that goal.
What Is Birdability Week?
Birdability Week, held October 20–26 in 2025, is a week-long celebration that uplifts birders with disabilities and helps make birding more welcoming and accessible to all. The initiative, created by Birdability, features educational webinars, virtual events, and local outings that showcase accessible birding locations and encourage people to connect with nature in ways that work best for them.
From wheelchair-accessible trails and viewing platforms to virtual birding opportunities, Birdability Week emphasizes that there’s no “right” way to go birding—only your way.
Why Birdability Matters
Birding is one of the most inclusive hobbies in the world. It can happen from your backyard, balcony, car, or even a favorite window. But for many people, barriers still exist—uneven trails, lack of accessible parking, or limited seating can make outdoor birding difficult.
Birdability works to identify these challenges and promote solutions that help everyone enjoy birding. Through their Birdability Map, birders can find and review accessible locations across the country—an invaluable resource for those looking to experience the joy of birds without the stress of accessibility uncertainty.
Wild Birds Unlimited and Inclusive Birding
At Wild Birds Unlimited, we see accessibility as part of our larger mission of connection. We know that birding offers a sense of peace, curiosity, and joy—and we want to ensure that everyone can share in that experience.
Our stores across North America are designed to make backyard birding simple and enjoyable for all. Many of our customers find that feeding the birds right at home is not just a hobby—it’s a meaningful connection to the natural world, no matter their level of mobility.
From easy-to-use feeders to quality bird food and expert advice, Wild Birds Unlimited helps people of all abilities discover how birding can fit seamlessly into their lifestyle.
And during Birdability Week, we encourage everyone—customers, team members, and communities—to reflect on how we can make birding and outdoor spaces even more welcoming.
